The Sukhoi Su-15 (Russian Сухой Су-15, NATO codename: "Flagon") was a Soviet Interceptor aircraft, that was developed in the 1960s. The aircraft was a development of the Sukhoi Su-11 and was first flown on 30th May 1962. The fighter was able to reach speeds of up to Mach 2 and met the Soviet requirement for a fighter with the ability to perform ground controlled interception. The Sukhoi Su-15 was the first Sukhoi aircraft that is powered by two engines. The successors of the Flagon were the Mikoyan MiG-29 “Fulcrum” and the Sukhoi Su-27 “Flanker” aircraft; the last Su-15 aircraft were retired from service with the Russian Air Force in the year 1992.
